Two-thousand nine-hundred thirty-five* deaths occurred in Ciudad Juárez between August 01, 2009 - July 31, 2010 as a direct result of the war waged on the drug cartels by the Mexican Government.
This “war” was set in motion on December 11, 2006 during the press conference Anuncio Sobre la Operación Conjunta Michoacán; 10 days after President Felipe Calderón took office.
*We will never know the accurate number of deaths. Hundreds of people went missing and are still unaccounted for. Journalists were heavily targeted in order to silence them, in some cases resulting in their own death.
